Southern Maid Donuts was founded as a wholesale baker in 1937 in Dallas and expanded with its first franchise in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1941. The location used for this art print features the Odessa Texas store which opened in 1951.
The brand in known for having a unique and secret flour recipe and perhaps their greatest claim to fame is that Elvis Presley recorded a jingle for them in 1954, their only product endorsement. If the King said to buy donuts there, I'd buy my donuts there.
This art print depicts the Southern Maid Donuts on a busy day in the 1970s.
