The Rabbit Hash General Store first opened in 1831. The iconic country store was established by 17-year-old local James A. Wilson and is located on the banks of the Ohio River in Kentucky. It holds the title of one of the oldest continuously operating general stores in the United States.
It is hard to believe that the store survived a 1937 flood in which it was completely submerged, but things in those days were built to last. The building was sadly mostly destroyed in a devastating fire in 2016 but was rebuilt using as much of the salvaged historic materials as possible and is still in operation today.
In 1989 the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Is there anything that says Americana like a general store from a town called Rabbit Hash?
