Max's Kansas City was a legendary bar and restaurant located at 213 Park Ave South in New York City. The club operated from 1965 to 1981, serving as the epicenter of New York city's creative underground scene.
The famous "back room" was where Andy Warhol and his entourage held court. Warhol's presence drew celebrities from all over further adding to the club's reputation.
In 1970 the upstairs was turned into a concert hall and it was here the the Velvet Underground played a historic and extended residency during that summer. The result of that residency was the release of the iconic Live At Max's Kansas City album.
The club helped launch Bruce Springsteen as he got his first major break opening for Bob Marley & The Wailers in 1973 and Aerosmith famously signed a record deal directly after a showcase performance at Max's.
