For my entire life I have been fascinated with lighthouses. As a lifelong New Englander I grew up around so many of these amazing structures and have always been drawn to them. Whenever I'm near the coast I make it a point to visit these landmarks, and I am always in awe of their beauty and of their historic value.
The Harbor of Refuge Light is a lighthouse built on the ocean end of the outer Delaware Breakwater at the mouth of the Delaware Bay, just off Cape Henlopen. The original structure was built between 1906 and 1907 but heavy storms in 1918 and later 1920 caused significant damage and rendered the lighthouse inhabitable. The current structure was built to replace it in 1926 and that is the lighthouse that still stands today.
