The famous T.A. Moulton Barn (often called the most photographed barn in America) in Grand Teton National Park was built in stages between 1913 and 1945. Construction began in 1913 when homesteader Thomas Alma (T.A.) Moulton built a small flat-roofed shelter for his horses. The steep pitched gable roof and the hayloft were added in 1928. The shed-roofed lean-tos were completed between 1938 and 1945.
Grand Teton National Park was established on February 26, 1929 when President Calvin Coolidge signed the bill establishing the original park, which protected only the major peaks of the Teton Range and six glacial lakes at its base.
On September 14, 1950 the park was expanded when President Harry Truman signed the legislation creating the "new" and enlarged Grand Teton National Park. This version merged the original 1929 park with the Jackson Hole National Monument, expanding the park to approximately 310,000 acres and adding vital ecosystem protections for the surrounding valley.
