As a proud lifelong New Englander I am obsessed with clam shacks, lobster shacks and any small family-owned, waterside seafood spot. These small seafood shacks aren't just places to eat, they're part of New England's culture.
Many of the traditional seafood shacks grew out of the commercial fishing industry itself. Many began as tiny operations where lobster fishermen or clammers sold part of the day's catch directly from a dock or roadside stand. Over time, picnic tables, fryers, and hand-painted signs were added, and these dockside stands slowly evolved into these beloved seafood locations.
Foot Bridge Lobster located in Ogunquit Maine is a lobster shack in every sense of the word. It is a walk-up window only, no dining room or dining area and yet, in the Summer, the lines are long and the food is well worth the wait.
