As a proud lifelong New Englander I am obsessed with clam shacks, lobster shacks and any small family-owned, waterside seafood spot. These small seafood shacks aren't just places to eat, they're part of New England's culture.
Many of the traditional seafood shacks grew out of the commercial fishing industry itself. Many began as tiny operations where lobster fishermen or clammers sold part of the day's catch directly from a dock or roadside stand. Over time, picnic tables, fryers, and hand-painted signs were added, and these dockside stands slowly evolved into these beloved seafood locations.
That is precisely how Brown's Lobster Pound began. Brown's is located in Seabrook New Hampshire and began selling fresh lobsters and clams in 1950. In 1952 they added a lunch counter and in the following years, continued to grow the restaurant, eventually becoming a local institution.
