For my entire life I have been fascinated with lighthouses. As a lifelong New Englander I grew up around so many of these amazing structures and have always been drawn to them. Whenever I'm near the coast I make it a point to visit these landmarks, and I am always in awe of their beauty and of their historic value.
The most iconic lighthouse in the U.S. is Boston Light, built just offshore on Little Brewster Island. It's beam extends 27 miles out into the Atlantic. Boston Light was the first lighthouse established in America and was first illuminated in 1716. The original structure was destroyed during the Revolutionary War and was replaced by the current 89-foot stone tower which was built in 1783.
