As a proud lifelong New Englander I am obsessed with clam shacks, lobster shacks and any small family-owned, waterside seafood spot. These small seafood shacks aren't just places to eat, they're part of New England's culture.
Many of the traditional seafood shacks grew out of the commercial fishing industry itself. Many began as tiny operations where lobster fishermen or clammers sold part of the day's catch directly from a dock or roadside stand. Over time, picnic tables, fryers, and hand-painted signs were added, and these dockside stands slowly evolved into these beloved seafood locations.
This print features American Lobster Mart located in Bourne, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. The restaurant actually closed a few years ago, but I used to drive by this place all the time and I always loved the unique shape of the building and the giant lobster on the front.
