As a lifelong New Englander I have a great affection for the coast and more specifically the many historic mom and pop shops and restaurants that exist in many of these coastal towns.
New England is filled with clam shacks and lobster shacks that have been family owned for generations. Most of them were born out of the commercial fishing industry. They're the kind of place that has the old screen door that slams shut behind you because the hinges are too tight and the menu is usually hand written on a board behind the counter. The air is a mix of salt water, boiled lobster and fried seafood....basically heaven.
