The Palladium in New York City opened in 1927 and was originally called the Academy of Music, although it was primarily used as a movie theater that continued to operate as a cinema until 1970. In the 1960s, it was starting to be used more as a concert venue and with the closing of the Fillmore East in 1971, became a mainstay in New York City's music scene. The venue was rechristened the Palladium in 1976. It continued to serve as concert hall until it closed in 1982.
