The Fillmore West was a historic venue located in San Francisco, owned and operated by legendary concert promoter Bill Graham from 1968-1971. Originally called the El Patio Ballroom and later the Carousel Ballroom, it was briefly operated in 1968 by a collective formed by the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Big Brother and the Holding Company as a social/musical experiment before Bill Graham rebranded the venue.
This print features the billboard on the roof of the Fillmore advertising Janis Joplin's appearance at the venue on April 4, 1970. The show was historic in that it was a one-off appearance in which Janis reunited with Big Brother and the Holding Company shortly after leaving the Kozmic Blues Band.
