Home of the Blues Records Art Print Painting - Memphis Tennessee - Record Store

I grew up in what is considered to be the golden age of record stores between the mid seventies and early eighties and as a lifelong record collector,  I have a special place in my heart for record stores. 

I worked in a small independent record shop in throughout my high school years and worked in record shops throughout the entire decade of the eighties.   This was back in the day when there were record stores on every other corner and they were all unique.  Anytime I was visiting someplace I hadn't been before, the first thing I did was look to see where the record shops were.  

Home of the Blues Records was one of the most important record stores in the history of Memphis music.  Located at 107 Beale Street, it opened in 1947 and eventually became a gathering place for blues, R&B, soul and early rock & roll musicians and fans. 

Unlike many record stores of the period, Home of the Blues carried a wide range of music, including blues, R&B, gospel, jazz and rock and roll.  Home of the Blues was particularly interested in music that other retailers weren't necessarily willing to stock.  

Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash were both known as regulars that shopped at the store and Home of the Blues was among the first stores to stock "That's All Right", Elvis's breakthrough recording on Sun records.
